Years ago, before prohibition, Cincinnati was booming with breweries. Unfortunately, during the years of prohibition, the breweries closed down and the buildings went vacant for many years. Lucky for us, the craft beer scene has seen a revival in recent years and all of us Cincinnatians get to enjoy a wide variety and style of local craft beer.
To be considered a top choice brew, the beer must be made by a locally owned brewery and offer a unique taste you won’t find anywhere else. In addition to being available at local bars, each of these breweries has it’s own tap room that are each worth a visit. Whether you’re a local learning about the craft beer offerings in Cincinnati, or visiting for a weekend, you’ll be glad you tried any of the below top five locally brewed craft beers.
MadTree Brewing: PSA
PSA stands for just that, a public service announcement that craft beer can be drinkable and approachable without sacrificing taste. It’s a proper session ale, that’s meant to be enjoyed again and again. With a balance of malt sweetness and a full body, this recent addition to MadTree’s lineup will surely be a classic.
Rhinegeist: Cougar
Open since 2013, Rhinegeist has become synonymous with Cincinnati’s craft beer scene. Most of Rhinegeist brews are inspired by west coast style, meaning the hoppy flavor is typically pretty aggressive. You won’t find that with the Cougar, however. This blonde ale goes down easy and would make a great gateway option for someone testing out the waters of craft beers.
