Games to Play With Your Boyfriend

This post is all about the benefits of playing games with your partner. And no, not psychological games, but fun games to bring you closer and have fun together.

Plus, these games can be an easy way to mix up your date night. So I hope this list inspires you to start playing games with your partner or significant other and have a great night spending time together.

15+ Games to Play With Your Boyfriend

How Games Bring People Together In A Relationship

Improved Communication

I’ll be the first to admit I’m not the best at always communicating my feelings. Sometimes it’s hard to be so straightforward.

However, I find that most games lead to increased conversations that feel really open and comfortable so you can really get to know each other better if you’re in a new relationship or get to know one another even deeper if you’ve been together awhile.

Problem-Solving

This goes hand-in-hand with improved communication, but depending on the game you’re playing, you may need to partner closely to “win” the game and battle against obstacles.

This means problem-solving together, which is beneficial to all parts of your relationship and helps to build trust.

Relaxing Together

Everyone is so busy and it feels like we’re all running around non-stop. Playing games together allows you to relax together in a way that feels intentional and isn’t just watching a movie or TV.

Novel Experiences

Research shows novel experiences are really beneficial for couples. They increase dopamine in the brain which is healthy for everyone and leads to feelings of excitement and connection. This strengthens your bond over time and helps ensure you have a long, happy relationship.

What Games Can You Play With Your Boyfriend

Classic Games

Of course, any game night can include a classic game or two, as long as it’s two-player friendly. You’ll likely recognize at least one card game or board game on this list:

Scrabble

I love reading so I have a decent vocabulary and find Scrabble a fun challenge to play with a partner.

Checkers or Chess

Anytime we see Checkers at a bar, we have to play a round. And I’m learning how to play Chess since it’s such an enjoyable, popular game.

Uno

Uno is a great option as it’s also really portable, so you could easily take a pack with you and head to your local brewery to enjoy the game while having a drink.

Monopoly

Monopoly was a favorite in my family growing up so I’ll always be down for a round.

20 Questions

20 Questions is a simple game that you can play anywhere. It’s great for a road trip when you’re tired of your playlist.

To play: One person thinks of something. This something can be a person, place, thing, animal, etc. The other player gets to ask up to 20 yes or no questions about the “thing” in order to guess it. If the player doesn’t guess correctly by the end of the 20 questions, they lose that round.

TikTok Shopping Game

You’ve likely seen this game on your For You Page. Essentially, you and your partner head to the store (such as a Walmart), but it could be any store of your choice.

And then you each shop for the other person. Typically, it’s just a few, relatively inexpensive items, and you’ll want to confirm the budget beforehand.

For each item, you choose a theme, such as “favorite color” and then you find something in your partner’s favorite color. You can also choose things like “favorite drink,” “favorite snack,” “something to relax,” “something they need,” etc.

Then you separate in the store until you’ve finished your shopping. Once you’re home you can unbox your items together and explain your choices.

Guessing Your Own Catchphrases

You might also recognize this game from TikTok. If you and your partner have been together a long time, it’s possible you have your own “catchphrases” or sayings that are an inside joke between the two of you.

For this game, you can each take turns typing out the catchphrase you want the other person to guess in your Notes app, Snapchat or in the “Big Text” app and they can hold the phone to their head so they can’t see what the phrase is.

Then you give yourself a limit of, let’s say 30 seconds, to give them clues about the phrase. You can find examples of this game by searching #guessthephrase on TikTok.

Tinderblox

Tinderblox is a mini, portable game that lets you build fires! It’s an easy-to-learn game that’s suitable for 2 players and lets you test your dexterity as you build a toy 3-D campfire.

The game is available in several versions, including a waterproof one that is great if you want something to bring on outdoor adventures like to the beach or camping.

Spaceship Unity

Spaceship Unity is a very popular game that focuses on the story instead of winning vs. losing. It’s really unique and you’re guaranteed an exciting experience together. What makes it even more special than a typical board game, is you really get to have a sense of wonder and play.

Boop

Boop is the cutest game! In this adorable strategy game, you’re playing cute kitties on a bed. You place your kittens on the bed and the goal is to avoid getting bounced off the bed by the other cats. It’s an abstract, strategic game that you can play again and again.

Chicken vs. Hot Dog

Chicken vs Hotdog is a party game that will absolutely have anyone laughing. The cool thing is it even works for just two players. It’s an interactive card game with these goofy looking chicken and hot dogs that you get to flip and toss around.

Conversation Cards

I love conversation cards! They’re an easy game that you can play at any time. Where Should We Begin is a current favorite as it has over 200 prompts and encourages storytelling. You’ll realize you have stories you haven’t yet shared with one another.

We’re Not Really Strangers is another popular version of conversation cards with the goal of deepening relationships.

The Ultimate Date Night Game

The Ultimate Date Night Game is like conversation cards, mixed with Never Have I Ever and Truth or Dare. You’ll find 300 cards in 5 categories. The game comes with a spinner, so you can simply spin away to get things started.

You’ll have various prompts on your card, such as a Dare or Rapid Fire responses and whoever gets 25 cards first wins the game.

Video Games

I love playing video games with my boyfriend. My favorite video game to play together is Mario Party. We’ll play the two of us alongside the computer characters or sometimes we’ll play online with our friends.

Some more video games for couples include:

Overcooked & Overcooked 2

This video game is one of the most popular for couples.

Stardew Valley

A classic, relaxing game to play together. They even have a board game version now!

Mario Kart

I love playing the tournament format in Mario Kart!

I’d love to hear what video games you enjoy playing with two players!
