Easy Joker Halloween Makeup for Women

This is a great Halloween look that’s both classic (everyone loves Joker) and trendy given that Joker: Folie à Deux will be in theaters this year.

This video tutorial is just two minutes and takes you through each step with video visuals. I’ve also written out the steps below with product recommendations.

I can’t state enough just how simple this is to recreate even if you’re a makeup novice!

Female Joker Makeup Tutorial

Set your base

After cleansing, apply your choice of moisturizer. Then go in with a nice sticky primer.

I’m a big fan of the e.l.f. power grip primer and The Ordinary High Adherence Silicone Primer.

Add Foundation and Optional White Face Color/Foundation

Next, layer on your foundation. You could also consider using a white cream face paint for an even more dramatic effect.

Shape and Color Eyebrows

It’s time start exaggerating the look to get that creepy Joker effect. So grab a green eye liner pencil and shape your brows. Pencil them all the way in and then extend the mid part of each brow to a pointy shape. I also pencil the tails in slightly further.

This gives the effect of a raised eyebrow, like a moment of surprise. Which is something a clown would go for.

Add the Upside Down Triangle & Finish The Eyes

To finish the eye area, you’ll add an upside-down triangle shape under each eye. Also in the green eye liner pencil color.

I topped these off with a liquid green eyeliner too just to help it last longer – but that’s optional. I just have naturally oily skin and wanted the extra staying power.

Continue to shade your eyes with green eyeliner and eye shadow to get that overall diamond shape from the pointy eyebrow to the upside-down triangle. Add your favorite mascara.

Color Your Lips

Now, you’ll be adding a bright red lip color. First, just add the lip color as usual on your mouth.

Then, slowly start to exaggerate outside of your lips to make an extended smile shape. Take this part slow and don’t be concerned with each side matching – it should be imperfect – you’re portraying a character who’s kind of lost his mind!

This must be a matte, long-lasting lip color. The Sephora Collection Liquid Lip Color in Always Red served me well and the Maybelline Super Stay Matte Ink Liquid Lipstick in Pioneer is another great choice. They do not budge!

Add a Red Nose

Using that same lip color, shade in the tip of your nose. You can create another triangle shape like I did or go with a circle.

Optional – Add Red Eyebrows

If you’re looking at recent Joker images of Joaquin Phoenix his character has red eyebrows on the middle of his forehead. I wasn’t a fan of how these looked on me, and I was worried about smudging, so I skipped them.

No one noticed or commented about it, but if you’re going for a more authentic look, then you may want to add them.

Lock it all in With Setting Spray

Lastly, you’ll want to end with a heavy layer of setting spray. I did not do any setting powder as I didn’t want to effect the bright colors of the makeup. Instead just using a liquid setting spray is your best choice.

Add a layer, let it dry and then spray a second layer for makeup that will last all night long.

Add Temporary Green Hair Color

Take it all to the next level, by finishing the look with a temporary green hair color. I was worried about this one, but this hair coloring gel was perfect.

It added color to my hair, helped to give it some shape without being too crunchy, and, MOST IMPORTANT OF ALL – it washed out easily!

I did a double shampoo and a deep conditioner after and my hair felt totally normal.
