TRP Sphyre C mechanical disc brakes provide reliable braking under all weather and trail conditions without the price-hike that comes with upgrading to hydraulic brakes. The Tiagra spec of the Cannondale Topstone (which we reviewed a couple of months ago in Ultegra guise), for example, has comparable components but uses Shimano’s Tiagra hydraulic disc brakes. 700 x 35mm tires are great for mixing road and gravel, but you can upgrade to 42mm tires or even 650b x 50mm. If you are looking for a drop bar bike to do a lot of mixed-terrain riding, this one is a good candidate.

The Stan’s NoTubes Grail MK3 wheels on the Fuji Jari 1.1 is an excellent, all-purpose set for Gravel riding, with wide, 20.3 mm (inner) rims for the category’s wider tires, and a burly 32-spoke construction and 12 mm thru-axles.
It still features all the necessary bosses for racks, bottle cages, and fenders and carries over some of the gold detailing from the 2017 model.

The original Fuji Jari came in five different versions, with the ultimate top-of-the-range beast being the Jari 1.1, which spares no expense.
Even the Jari’s lower-spec bikes have left riders impressed and promise to provide value for money. My 58cm/XL test bike has a 72-degree head and 72.5-degree seat, around a degree or two slacker than a road bike. Happy to see that my instincts were right when I saw it in the store. Several review sites have given an average of 4.5 out of 5 stars for the alloy Fuji Jari 1.1 Shimano 105 version. Other than the new full carbon, the three top-range frames are built from A6-SL super-butted aluminum with internal cable routing to best perform in any weather conditions. The Jari 1.7 ($1,300) drops the gear choices down to 10-spd with Shimano Tiagra components, but, like the 1.3, gives you two chain rings. The hydraulic discs offer excellent modulation and power when needed with multiple adjustments for personalization. The Jari 1.1 ($2,500) sits at the top of the Jari family. That includes the usual three bottle cage mounts – although you’re unlikely to need a third bottle much in the UK. The 42 was a comforting bail-out gear if ever I needed to truly drop anchor, sit down, and spin up a long, steep climb. There’s certainly some flex in the crankset/bottom bracket under load, but not more than expected in a bike of this kind, and the stiff carbon cranks make up for some of this. Fuji describes the Jari as having “adventure” geometry with a longer wheelbase and slacker head and seat angles.

The geometry is simply too off-road-focused to give this bike the efficiency needed for hard road efforts — sprinting and climbing are noticeably inefficient, even for the category. The bike comes stock with 700 x 35mm tires, which are nice for moving seamlessly between road and gravel, but if you want to be more adventurous you have plenty of room to upgrade to 42mm tires or change to 650b wheels and go all the way up to 50mm. At the moment these are the greatest offers that I’ve seen anywhere online. est. I sometimes take part in group-rides and compete in races. For true adventurers looking to spend days out in the mountains and countryside, you will be hard-pressed to find a better bike. All Jari models use the same butted aluminum frame.
This bike also features a full carbon fork, which looks cool and is a very nice feature at this price. Estimated spec level of the Jari 1.1, Checkpoint ALR 5, and Checkpoint SL 5 compared to other touring bikes. But it’s let down by some poor component choices, like the brakes and bottom bracket. On the plus side, the tyres along with the WTB rims are tubeless-ready. With a dedicated touring bike in the line-up—the aptly named Touring—and a do-it-all road platform called the Tread, Fuji was free to give the Jari a hefty dose of race-worthy performance.
This works perfectly in the shallow drops on technical sections, providing masses of wrist clearance while the back sweep shortens the reach giving you a more upright position on the hoods, enabling you to look down the trail without craning your neck. The front end is also relatively stiff, although the wide bars and long head tube do flex, especially in stand-up efforts. Very versatile, decent components, and I loved the test ride. The Jari’s off-road credentials don’t stop at the gearing though. Below we’re going to get into the detail of Fuji Jari 1.5 Adventure Road Bike 2019 to help you see how the prices stack up. These are really wide, starting out at 42cm at the tops on the medium sized bike, but with their 25° flare heading out to 53cm in the drops, centre-to-centre. You also get top tube mounting points and full rack and mudguard bolts, including a permanent bridge between the seatstays. The Jari 1.3 and 1.5 are two mid-range and more affordable versions and the 2.3 and 2.5 complete the lower end of the range.
