So, let’s talk hashtags. Since I decided to start blogging over a year ago, I began using my Instagram account as an extension of my blog. I decided to be more thoughtful with what I post. I also began using more hashtags and in a strategic way. Instagram allows users to use up to 30 hashtags in their post (or comment section) and if you’re trying to reach a wide audience, you might as well use the max.
I typically add my hashtags as a comment right after I post so I can keep the post caption clean. If there is a specific hashtag I want to highlight, I’ll use that in the caption. Otherwise, I add the “. . . . “ and the max number of hashtags that correspond with the photo.
Instagram is constantly changing their algorithm, so there are times when engagement drastically drops, but I find that using hashtags and engaging with other users helps balance out those algorithm changes. Below are some of the hashtags I use regularly organized by general topics.

Other Tips:
Since there are SO many hashtags for each type of post, try to switch up the ones you’re using. Use some more popular ones with some more niche ones.
Engage with other users. Go through the hashtags you regularly use and engage with other people whose content you enjoy. You’ll likely find some inspiration for your future posts too.
Don’t forget to tag! If your image features a brand, company or place be sure to tag them in your picture. Also check that brand’s page to see if there is a specific hashtag that they ask their fans to use. You’ll be much more likely to get their attention and potentially have your photo regrammed to their followers.
Ask engaging questions in your post. Sure Instagram is mostly a visual feed, but that’s no reason to ignore your post caption. Try to share a story or ask something engaging in your caption to encourage interaction. If someone comments, take the time to give them a reply.
Avoid over filtering. Instead of layering a bunch of filters on your photo, I find it best to brighten them and add a little saturation and contrast to make them pop. But, find your own personal aesthetic! I’ll share some of my favorite photo-editing apps in another post soon.
