35+ Best Girls Trip Destinations in the US
West Coast Wonders: From San Diego to Seattle
The west coast is full of options for a girls weekend whether you're looking for sunshine and celebrities in Los Angeles, or finding some solitude hiking around Seattle, these destinations make for a great girls weekend getaway.
Los Angeles, California
LA is a great spot for a fun girls trip with a Hollywood twist. I recommend splitting your itinerary up by the area you want to spend the day in so you're not driving all over Los Angeles. For example, you could spend a day around Hollywood, a day downtown and another on the coast.
You can spend an afternoon walking from Santa Monica to Venice Beach, then head to the Abbot Kinney area for some shopping and dinner. Take a studio tour (I recommend the Warner Bros. Studio Tour), hike Runyon Canyon, visit Griffith Park, Getty Museum and end the night on a rooftop bar like Perch.
Seattle, Washington
Seattle is a beautiful city. Take a free walking tour of Pike Place Market making sure to stop at Rachel's for a ginger beer (they're NA but you can also choose a cocktail) and Beecher's Cheese. Take a bicycle tour or get out on the water with an Elliott Bay Sea Kayaking Tour.
I have a full guide of 30+ Unforgettable Things to Do in Seattle. Or, if you want to get really wild, you could even road trip over to Forks, Washington for a Twilight-inspired trip.
Napa Valley, California
Wine, dine, and unwind in Napa Valley - the best girls trip destination in the US for wine lovers and foodies alike! Book a tour guide service so you can sit back and enjoy wine tastings galore.
Oregon Coast
The Oregon Coast is stunning and a sometimes overlooked destination. You can fly into Portland to get a rental car then head to Seaside and Cannon Beach as the base for your trip. You'll get to see the iconic Haystack Rock on Cannon Beach. Then road trip down to Newport, Oregon with a stop at Tillamook Creamery for some cheesy treats.
San Diego, California
Sunny San Diego is another great girls trip destination on the west coast. Start the weekend with brunch and mimosas at one of the local hotspots, Morning Glory or Crushed. Go kayaking at La Jolla Coves or soak in the sunshine on Mission Beach.
Best Girls Trip Destinations in the US: Southern Charmers
Head south to these charming cities for a girls destination that will be sweet and fun! These trip ideas are fabulous girls weekend getaways.
Charleston, South Carolina

Go shopping on King Street and take a beach day visiting Folly Beach. Stay at a boutique hotel like Emeline with bespoke amenities
Nashville, Tennessee
Nashville has been a popular Bachelorette party destination for over a decade and will always be one of the best girls trip destinations and it's for good reason - there are lots of fun activities for the gals here. You'll likely want to spend a few hours or a night on Broadway enjoying the live music and antics at places like Big Honky Tonk, Tootsie's Orchid Lounge and Casa Rosa. But then branch out to enjoy even more that this city has to offer.
The Grand Ole Opry is great for a tour, go to brunch at Pinewood Social or Hampton Social, check out the Parthenon, and dine on some Nashville Hot Chicken and Five Daughters donuts.
Savannah, Georgia
Savannah is a beautiful city to visit. Visit Forsyth Park to see one of it's most recognizable landmarks and all the gorgeous Spanish moss draped oak trees. Walk on the historic cobblestone streets on River Street to take in the views of the Savannah River and shop in the Riverside District.
Take a walking or bicycle tour, plan a day at Tybee Island and brunch at Little Duck Diner, Mirabelle Cafe, or Olde Pink House Restaurant.
Wilmington, North Carolina or Outer Banks, North Carolina
Wilmington and Outer Banks are both on this list thanks to popular teen television shows. Dawson's Creek and One Tree Hill were both filmed in Wilmington and, of course, Outer Banks, is a popular Netflix show that is based on the city of Outer Banks, though filming happened in Charleston and Barbados. In Wilmington, you can enjoy the Wrightsville and Carolina Beaches, visit the historic district and Cameron Art Museum and end the night with a ghost tour.
Outer Banks is a sleepy, beach town where you can enjoy the sun, sand and surf. Go paddle boarding and then take a tour to see the wild horses of OBX.
Girls Trip Destinations in America: (North) East Coast Escapes
The North East and New England is full of weekend getaway ideas for your group. You'll find cities with a lot of history and great public transportation as well as some calm, coastal spots.
Portland, Maine
Portland, Maine is a foodie's paradise and a relaxing destination fit for the perfect girls trip. While in Portland you must try a lobster roll, some fresh oysters and something blueberry like a fresh blueberry pie! I have a full guide to Portland with all the activities to fill your trip. In addition to eating some amazing food, you should also consider some craft beer, kombucha or wine tastings. Go chase the sunset at the most photographed lighthouse in the world, the Portland Head Light. And check out my full guide on what to do, eat and see in Portland, Maine.
New York City, New York
The city that never sleeps makes for a great girls trip! Shop til you drop in Soho, see a Broadway show and museum hop at the endless options in the city such as Museum of Modern Art, The Metropolitan Museum, American Museum of Natural History or the Guggenheim.
Grab a meal in Chinatown - even better if you can split several dishes amongst friends. Explore Central Park making sure to see the The Mall and Literary Walk, plus the Bethesda Terrace for a classic NYC moment. The options here are endless! For the girls looking for endless options in one city, this is the best girls trip destination in the US.
Nantucket, Massachusetts
Nantucket is the epitome of a New England summer with 82 miles of coastline. A must-do is taking a bike ride through the picturesque landscape. Pedal your way to Siasoncset, a charming village here with rose-covered cottages or just go along the shoreline.
Enjoy the easy access to water activities like a guided kayak tour, paddle boarding, or a boat cruise. Shop for some unique finds with all the boutique shops and local artisans you can find here. Take at least one beach day if not more on Surfside Beach, Jetties Beach or Cisco Beach and pack a picnic!
Newport, Rhode Island
Newport, Rhode Island makes for a dreamy girls trip, and maybe you'll get lucky with a Taylor Swift sighting since she owns a home here. Take a stroll along the Cliff Walk, a 3.5 mile path along the coast, where you can take in the Gilded Age architecture and the ocean views.
Take a rental car along Ocean Drive, a 10- mile journey along the coastline on one winding road. Go on some mansion tours! The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House are sure to take your breath away. Stop in The Nitro Bar for breakfast and visit the landmark restaurant, Brick Alley Pub for lunch or dinner.
Washington, DC
Check off the must-do's in DC including the National Mall where you can see iconic landmarks such as the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the Smithsonian Museums. The Smithsonian Museums are free to visit and you can find something for everyone's interests from the National Museum of American History to the National Gallery of Art.
See the sights at night with a Monuments and Memorials Night Tour for a unique viewpoint of the illuminated landmarks and learn more of the history from a pro. Rent bicycles or go on a guided bike ride tour. Explore Georgetown with it's cobblestone streets and boutique shops.
Bar Harbor, Maine
My favorite vacation ever might just be when I road tripped from Bar Harbor, Maine to Boston. I could have spent the entire trip in Bar Harbor and Acadia. It's a great destination for anyone including a girls trip. You can explore the cute neighborhood of Bar Harbor, enjoy all the ice cream, pop into the antique shops and walk along the rocky coastline.
Then I recommend a day or two in Acadia National Park trying any of there many hikes, wandering along the Ocean Path trail and getting popovers at Jordan Pond House.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Soak in the history of Philadelphia by visiting the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall. Founding Footsteps offers a variety of historical tours including walking tours as well as a "historically hilarious BYOB" tour that goes around on a trolley.
Wander through the Reading Terminal Market so sample some foods, grab lunch and get souvenirs. And visit the Philadelphia Museum of Art for it's extensive collection of artwork from around the globe.
Best Girls Trip Destinations in the US: Nature Getaways
These destinations offer blue skies and fresh air for outdoor adventures. I wouldn't consider any of these suggestions to be for the extreme adventure traveler, but instead options for the girls who enjoy a morning hike followed by brunch and maybe relaxing poolside!
Asheville, North Carolina
Find relaxation amid nature’s beauty in Asheville – enjoy exploring Blue Ridge Mountains (especially during the fall!) or get lost amidst art galleries & cultural events. You must add a visit to the Biltmore Estate - it's a stunning, humongous mansion built in the late 1800s by the Vanderbilt family where you can tour the grounds and gardens and even enjoy a wine tasting at the Biltmore Winery.
Visit the River Arts District to gallery hop and admire local arts. Go hiking or visit the Asheville Botanical Gardens to get that outdoorsy time. And consider a food tour to enjoy the amazing food scene here.
Sedona, Arizona
Sedona is an amazing spot for a girls trip. It's a 2-hour drive from the Phoenix International Airport to Sedona and you'll be transported to the land of stunning red rocks. What took my breath away here was how scenic it was in every part of the city and that amongst the red rocks you'll see lots of lush greenery.
My full Sedona travel guide shares all the things to do for an outstanding trip, but a few key items are hiking (try the Devil's Bridge trail), dining with a view (try Mesa Grill) and the Pink Jeep Tours.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Jackson Hole is a stunning destination for an outdoorsy girls trip. Get your hike on in Grand Teton National Park, trying the Cascade Canyon Trail and Hidden Falls Trail. Go on a guided tour or hike at the National Elk Refuge.
Take a hot air balloon ride to admire the scenery in an even more breathtaking view from above. And if the weather is warm enough, go whitewater rafting! For the adventurers this is one of the best girls trip destinations in the US.
Boise, Idaho
Boise is a bit under-the-radar as a travel destination compared to other cities, but they've got a lot to offer! Do all the outdoor things here with hiking and biking in the Boise Foothills and rafting or kayaking on the Boise River. Take food tour with Indulge Boise, the #1 rated Boise food tour - I recommend the BoDo on the Greenbelt Savor and Sip Tour for a progressive dining experience that highlights all the diverse cuisine in the neighborhood.
Best Places in the US for a Girls Trip: Florida Favorites for Sun & Fun
Florida gets its own section entirely because there are so many spots to visit in the Sunshine State for every type of traveler!
Miami, Florida
For the classic Miami experience you'll have to head to the beach and in Miami, that's going to be South Beach. After you've got your fix of sunshine and people watching, take a stroll through Wynwood Walls to see the latest work from fine artists, graffiti writers and muralists from around the world all in one place. For an over-the-top coffee experience pop into Dior Cafe for an instagrammable moment (though yes, it's a pricey cup of coffee!) and do some shopping.
Visit the Art Deco Historic District which has over 800 historic buildings with unique architecture and design. You can do a walking tour or just explore on your own. For a fun dinner experience, head to Crazy About You or Kiki on the River.
Fort Lauderdale, Florida
Fort Lauderdale will be a more affordable Florida option compared to Miami, but no less fun! While here you can spend a day at the beach enjoying miles of white sand or even doing some water sports like paddleboarding or jet ski rentals. Stroll down Las Olas Boulevard to do some window shopping and pick up souvenirs. Visit the gorgeous Bonnet House Museum and Gardens and consider a tour of the Everglades!
Key West, Florida
Key West is stunning and a more chill Florida spot for the gals who want some sunshine and relaxation. For a unique experience, visit the Ernest Hemingway Home and Museum where the famous writer lived and worked. You can take a guided tour to see the home's unique architecture and meet the descendants of Hemingway's beloved cats. Go on a sunset sail, spend the day at the beach, explore the Key West Butterfly and Nature Conservatory.
Top Girls Trip Destinations in the US: Midwest Moments
Don't overlook the midwest when looking into destinations as these spots can make for an affordable girls weekend. The midwest is charming and possibly a more central locale for your group of gals.
Cincinnati, Ohio
I know I'm biased because Cincinnati is my former home, but it really is a great city with amazing food and a chill midwestern vibe, making it one of the best girls trip destinations in the US. I recommend staying at Hotel Covington (technically in Kentucky, but it's literally walking distance to Roebling Bridge that you can cross into Cincinnati within a 15 minute walk) - it's where celebrities like Zac Efron stay while filming movies in the area.
Catch a reds game, walk around Over-the-Rhine and get some Red Bikes to Findlay Market. In the evening, pop into a craft cocktail bar (I suggest Ghost Baby!) and get dinner on Vine Street - I suggest sharing a bunch of small plates at Abigail Wine Bar.
Michigan Coast
The Michigan coastline is literally stunning and kind of a hidden gem since it's not always first to come to mind when thinking of beachy coastlines. Mackinac Island would make a charming visit - there's actually no cars allowed on the island and it has this classic, relaxing, old-timey feel. EatLiveTravelDrink grew up in Michigan and is it's biggest cheerleader so I recommend her Ultimate Guide to Mackinac Island.
A few other locations on the Michigan coast to consider include, St. Joseph, South Haven and Saugatuck, Michigan.
Memphis, Tennessee
Just like Nashville, Memphis is a music city. Plus, you'll get to indulge in some amazing soul food. I recommend Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken for at least one of your meals, and a stroll down Beale Street.
Take in some history at Graceland and the National Civil Rights Museum. It may be heavy to visit, but I think it can be very inspiring to be in the city where so much progress started for the Civil Rights movement.
More Warm Weather Destinations with Lots of Things to Do
Here are some additional destinations to consider for an amazing girls getaway with warm weather and lots to do in central locations to make for easy planning.
New Orleans, Louisiana
New Orleans certainly has a party reputation, but it is so much more. There's great food to enjoy like beignets, po' boys, gumbo and more. Plus, an amazing energy and live music everywhere you go.
I recommend visiting the Garden District during the day and Frenchman Street at night. Don't forget a cemetery tour and a Sazerac cocktail which was founded here.
Scottsdale, Arizona
I think Scottsdale was basically created for girls trips. They make it SO easy to find something for everyone and the airport is just a short drive to the city. Once you're at your hotel you could just Uber to all your destinations. Enjoy a spa day, take in the sunshine, eat some great food and go for a hike.
My full guide to Scottsdale covers places to stay, things to do and more. A quick hit list would include visiting the Desert Botanical Garden, eating at Postino, hiking at McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a sunrise Hot Air Balloon trip, and visiting Old Town Scottsdale.
Austin, Texas
It's going to be warm so get out on the water in Austin. Go river tubing or party on Lake Travis. Enjoy the live music scene, get a pair of customized cowboy boots and eat all the barbecue and tacos.
Hula Hut is a great spot for some day drinking before heading out on the boat. (Please don't drink and drive!) Head to Rainey Street in the evening to bar hop at Lustre Pearl and Lucille.
Disney World (or Disneyland)
Get the girls together for childhood fun and coasters at Disney World! In my opinion Disney is a great spot to visit because while you can choose to follow all the ways to "hack" the system you can also just go and have fun without a ton of planning. Outside of the parks, you can enjoy a spa day at one of Disney's luxurious spas, like Senses Spa at Disney's Grand Floridian.
You can shop around at Disney Springs, take a special Disney cake decorating class, or even go on a behind-the-scenes tour of the parks with the "Keys to the Kingdom" tour at Magic Kingdom.
Las Vegas, Nevada
Go for fun and sun in Las, Vegas! You and your girls can see some great entertainment in Vegas with a show like "O" by Cirque du Soleil at Bellagio, explore the strip and it's iconic landmarks like the Bellagio Fountains and the Welcome to Vegas sign. Go for thrills with some gambling at your pick of casinos, ride the High Roller Observation Wheel, Big Shot or X-Scream, the latter of which teeter totters you over the edge of the SkyPod from 866 feet high!
San Juan, Puerto Rico
Given that you do not need a passport to visit Puerto Rico, I think San Juan is a great option for a girls trip. During your stay you can explore Old San Juan, taking in the sights of the colorful streets and the historic district. Hit the beach - Condado, Isla Verde, and Ocean Park Beach are all great options for soaking in some sunshine.
Have some fun with a rum distillery tour at Casa Bacardi, and enjoy the nightlife on a rooftop bar such as La Terraza de San Juan. For a nature fix, check out El Yunque National Forest, a beautiful rainforest about an hour way from San Juan with hiking trails, waterfalls, and natural pools.
Adult Camp
I'm throwing out a curveball option - you could take your group of gals to summer camp together! If you've never heard of them before their are a variety of options out there for a summer camp experience, but for grown-ups. You'll find the usual summer camp activities like arts & crafts, kickball, water sports, etc. but with some adults-only benefits like an open bar (if you wish to imbibe!)
Camp No Counselors and Club Getaway are popular options. Or you can live out your childhood dreams with Adult Space Academy and pretend you're training to be an astronaut.
This post was all about the best girls trip destinations in the US. Getting away with your girlfriends can be EASY with so many options all over the United States and even in your own backyard. I hope you're inspired to get out there and have fun with your gals.
