4 Tips to Detox Naturally

Looking for a simple and natural detox diet plan to help improve your skin, give you some energy and possibly lose some weight? Look no further! Try this natural detox cleanse for weight loss, to improve your skin and flush out toxins. You’ll start to feel the benefits as soon as 3 days.

I don’t believe in staving yourself for a detox, but I do believe we can easily make some adjustments to our diets to enjoy the benefits of a natural, healthy cleanse without any dramatic or unsafe measurements. I’m not recommending any skinny teas or a 3-day smoothie detox. Instead, below you’ll find my tips to naturally boost your health with some easy swaps and additions to your diet.

How to Detox Naturally:

Get Plenty of Fiber

Getting enough fiber in your diet everyday is a great way to keep your digestion regular and it can also help prevent you from overindulging in less-nutritious foods or feel the affects of hanger. When you get enough fiber in your diet, the fiber will help you feel full and satisfied while also move other waste through your system.

The recommended daily intake of fiber is 25 grams for women and 38 grams for men. Most of us are probably only getting around 15 grams. It’s easy to integrate more into your diet, but I’d recommend increasing the amount slowly with a few more grams each day until you get to the recommended amount. Adding a ton of fiber into your diet immediately will likely upset your stomach so take things slowly.

Adding natural fiber to your diet is easy with foods like lentils and beans (I LOVE chickpeas and find them easier to digest than black beans), oatmeal, Brussels sprouts, avocado, pears and apples and more. You can also try a supplement like Metamucil.

Utilizing things like laxatives or “cleansing” teas is not the same thing as adding a healthy amount of fiber to your diet and I would never recommend them. Abusing pills or drinking those teas can really be harmful for your body and certainly won’t be a sustainable healthy way to live.

Hydrate!

It’s always important to stay hydrated and especially important when you’re switching up your diet and adding fiber. And it’s a fact that drinking water naturally flushes toxins from your body. If you aren’t drinking enough water, your organs don’t have enough fluid to do their jobs properly. So drink up!

A good rule of thumb to determine how much water to drink is to take your bodyweight in pounds then divide by two. That number is the # of ounces you should drink daily. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs, then you’d aim to drink 75 ounces of water per day.
If you’re out in the sun & heat or doing a vigorous workout, then drink more too!

If you’re struggling drinking that much water you can always add some natural flavor to it. I always keep some lemon and lime juice in my fridge to add to my water. Fresh fruit will naturally flavor it too (try lemons, limes, blueberries and strawberries).

Go Plant-Based

If it’s good enough for Beyonce, it’s good enough for me. Just like Beyonce famously started her new year with a 21 day vegan cleanse so can you enjoy the benefits of a clean, vegan diet by adding lots of fruits and veggies to your meals. It’s quite possible dairy could be the culprit for bloating so I hope you’d be able to avoid it for a week or so to see just how it interacts with your body. Focusing on adding more plant based meals to your diet and skipping the animal based items will have an immediate positive affect.

It’s actually much more taxing for your body to digest animal products so you’ll have more energy and feel more balanced by focusing on your veggies & fruits. Plus with all the vitamins and antioxidants you’ll be adding to your diet, you’ll see an improvement in your skin, your mood and even your sleep.

Try Fermented Foods

Fermented foods are so good for your gut health. They are full of the healthy bacteria to help improve your gut health and are loaded with vitamins and minerals. Fermented foods are full of probiotics which can improve digestion, immunity and even help increase weight loss. (resource)

Fermented Foods to Try:
Sauerkraut, kimchi, kombucha (find one low in sugar!), miso and tempeh.

I hope the above helps you naturally and safely boost your health! Let me know your tips for healthy living below!
